Your boating adventures just got safer, thanks to a new smartphone app from Sirius Signal that allows you to file a float plan in four easy steps directly from your iOS or Android device.
As recommended by the U.S. Coast Guard, the app helps boaters take safety measures before they head out on the water by filing a float plan to keep contacts aware of their plans and location, and help search and rescue personnel narrow down a location in the event of an emergency.
“As a 40-year West Coast Recreational Boater, the Sirius Signal App is easy to use and puts everyone’s mind at ease, that you will always Be Safe, Be Seen and Be Found,” says Steven Caldero, VP of sales & marketing for Sirius Signal.
At the start of your trip, the app will send your starting point, departure time and expected return to your contacts, keeping your location stored and updated every 10 minutes. If you don’t arrive at your expected time, a route map and your last known location will be sent to your contacts. In the event of an emergency, one-touch activation sends a text to 911 and your contacts with your exact location.
In addition to helping file a float plan, the Sirius Signal app has many added features to help keep you safe out on the water. For more information, visit siriussignal.com/application/.
