Get your groove ready for the first annual Rock The Boat family friendly concert hosted by the Michigan Maritime Museum on August 26 from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. High-energy ‘80s cover band The 1985 will be performing the hottest hits from the ‘80s in costume, and guests are encouraged to dress the part and bring their dancing shoes.
“We knew The 1985 could bring the right energy to help us make this event a massive celebration,” says Patti Montgomery Reinert, the museum’s executive director. “Since we are an organization committed to preserving historical events, it seemed fitting to celebrate with a band that is focused on a fun and historical decade in music history as well.”
The Wood, Stock and Grill on-site food truck will be serving food for purchase, and a cash bar will be offering wine, beer and non-alcoholic beverages while attendees enjoy music from the Patrick Alkins and Jan Frizzo Family Event Lawn.
Proceeds from the event will go to support phase two of the museum’s Launching a Legacy campaign, which will further development on the campus with improvements to the waterfront boardwalk and docks, restoration of the historic Jensen property and construction of a new lookout tower building.
“This is a chance for us to come together in a night of fun, food, music and dancing to celebrate what we’ve achieved and look forward to what’s next,” adds Reinert. “This is just the first occurrence of what we hope will become a highly anticipated annual event. We have some really big ideas for what it could continue to evolve into in the coming years!”
