The XS factor.

by Alan Wendt

Today’s busy families have varying demands, and it can be tricky finding time to spend together.

Formula’s all-new 270 and 240 XS (short for Xtreme Sport) series is purpose-built to bring family and friends together to enjoy a multitude of popular on-water adventures.

These 27- and 24-foot boats are designed for coving, wakesurfing and towing the wildest inflatables your kids can find. Half of the secret sauce is below the waterline. Tow and wakesport adventures are now possible, thanks to a Volvo Penta V8-350CE 5.3L Duoprop with forward-facing drive and wakesurf tabs and ballast. Couple the engine with Formula’s renowned deep-V hull that cuts through chop and you have a stable, dry ride.

Throw in some cool design features on deck — like a larger swim platform, a convertible aft sunpad, well- thought out adjustable backrests in the bow, and table arrangements that easily mix and move — and you have a pair of Formula boats for “Xtreme Sport, Xtreme Family and Xtreme Fun.”

Snazzy graphics and a bright interior snag the eye on the 270 XS. A Samson Sports Razor wakeboard tower and optional rotating tower board racks help keep passageways clutter free. Get the party started with an infectious beat from a subwoofer and two amplified quick release speakers secured overhead on the tow tower.

Vital statistics on the 270 include a length of 27 feet, a 8-foot, 6-inch beam and 101 gallons of fuel, while the 240 boasts 24 feet and 55 gallons of fuel. For towing purposes, the larger boat tips the scales at 6,200 pounds, and most SUVs can handle the 240’s 5,000 pounds with relative ease.

Options include a portable head unit, birch woodgrain floor in the head, LED anchor lights, two halogen tower lights and an undermount stainless steel swim ladder.

An exciting helm, racy steering wheel and bold polished gauges surround a digital multi-function display. There’s even an optional holding tank and running water available, which translates into eeking out every possible moment on the water.
