Green Beer Created to Bring Awareness to Lake Erie Algae

By September 27, 2018No Comments

The Ohio Environmental Council and a brewery in Ohio created a beer that looks like algae, creatively called the “Ale’gae Bloom.” The 7.2 percent Sour Double IPA does not contain algae — it is made using matcha powder and kiwi — but was created to educate customers on toxic algae in Lake Erie’s waters.

Unsafe water forced nearly 400,000 to withhold from using their taps for two days in 2014. Now, through the green beer, Maumee Bay Brewing hopes to start more conversations with customers about the algae that is caused by pollution.
