The Stafford’s Perry Hotel will once again host its annual Hemingway Birthday Celebration. The literary event is scheduled for Friday, July 21, and involves a statue dedication, dinner and documentary screening.
Events kick off at 4 p.m. with a statue dedication near City Park Grill. The statue, sculpted by Andy Sacksteder, is dedicated to Hemingway’s summers spent in northern Michigan. The dedication is open to the public.
Later in the evening, Birthday Celebration attendees will enjoy a four-course dinner at Stafford’s Perry Hotel. In attendance will be Paul Hendrickson, a professor at the University of Pennsylvania. Hendrickson is a noted Hemingway historian who authored Hemingway’s Boat: Everything He Loved in Life, and Lost. His book will be available for purchase after dinner.
Guests will have the chance to end the night with the premiere of the documentary “Young Hemingway & His Enduring Eden,” by George Colburn. The film will go on to screenings throughout Europe before airing on television in 2018.
Tickets are $65/person. To reserve a spot visit staffords.com or call 231-347-4000.
