Recreational boaters now have access to the first free social media platform specifically designed to help boaters connect, share information and access important tools. Scuttlebutt is a new free app available for iPhone and Android devices that is simple to use, and combines essential boating info and social media tools in one spot while incorporating sharing capabilities of other popular social media platforms.

Boaters can connect with friends, forge relationships with other like-minded boaters, and share their boating stories, news and info on the app, while also benefiting from live weather buoy info.

Created by lifelong Great Lakes boater Erik Kyle, Scuttlebutt promises to be the one stop platform for recreational boaters. “Whether it’s a fishing expedition, a cruise to a lakeside destination or just a family boat ride on a nice day, boaters need current and vital information to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience,” Kyle explains. “Like most boaters, I was constantly switching between three or more apps to get the information I needed; one for current weather conditions and forecasts, another for wind and wave heights and another for navigational information. With Scuttlebutt, we built in all of those features and more, while building a social network to fully address the needs of our diverse, yet close-knit community.”

Future updates include partnerships with other app and hardware manufacturers, as well as added functionality for Scuttlebutt users.
