A new ferry will soon be plying the waters between Marblehead, Ohio, and Kellys Island, Ohio, in early 2022. The Carmen Lee was designed by TAI Engineers and built and launched by Thomas-Sea Marine Constructors.
The new ferry will hold up to 149 passengers and 36 trucks and automobiles, and is equipped with four Caterpillar C18 propulsion engines, allowing for precise maneuvering in Lake Erie, which is important during harsh weather conditions.
“TAI Engineers and S&B Infrastructure are proud to utilize our marine engineering expertise to help improve transportation, mobility and accessibility for the Lorain Port Authority and Kelleys Island Ferry Boat Line,” says Danny Rios, president of S&B Infrastructure. “TAI’s marine capabilities, especially in passenger and automobile ferries, nicely complement S&B’s transportation and highway design capabilities.”
