A new project to restore 180 acres of coastal marsh within Lakeview Wildlife Management Area on Lake Ontario in Ellisburg, New York, is beginning this summer. The project aims to develop more hemi-marsh habitat, creating better breeding habitats and access for fish, birds and wildlife, while controlling invasive species and providing improved recreational opportunities for the public.
“There are few coastal marshes along Lake Ontario as special as those found at Lakeview Wildlife Management Area,” says Andy Hinickle, senior manager of Wetland Conservation for Audubon Great Lakes. “The project is a win for wildlife, and a win for people who value this incredible resource.”
