Lake Superior Water Trail Opens

By June 13, 2017No Comments

The Trans Canada Trail grew a bit longer this month with the opening of a new section along the north shore of Lake Superior. The newly-opened 1,000 km water path is called the Lake Superior Water Trail, and runs from Gros Cap Marina Park near Sault Ste. Marie to Thunder Bay’s Fisherman’s Park.

The Lake Superior Water Trail contains 16 access points for paddlers to choose from. Each access point has useful amenities such as composting toilets, bear-proof garbage, recycling containers and universally accessible docks. These access points are maintained by local partner communities.

Those interested in traveling by land and sea should aim to paddle to Sudbury, where the Lake Superior Water Trail connects to a cycling route.

Paddlers should visit the water trail website for safety guidelines and information before venturing out. Learn more at: superiorconservancy.org/water-trail.
