Winter may be in full force, but spring is just around the corner; there’s no better time to check a boating safety course off your list and brush up on some boating skills. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 75 in Lakewood, Ohio, is offering two virtual 10-week boating safety courses this winter, from January 27 to March 31 from 7 to 9 p.m. via Zoom, reports cleveland.com.

Ohio requires anyone born on or after January 1, 1982, who operates a boat powered by more than 10 hp in the state to complete a boat safety course, and the Coast Guard Auxiliary course satisfies this requirement.

Two courses will be offered: “Boating Skills and Seamanship via Zoom,” a powerboat-oriented class that teaches boat handling skills and safety; and “Sailing Skills and Seamanship via Zoom,” an introductory sailing course emphasizing safety. At the completion of the course, participants will receive a USCG Auxiliary and Ohio boating education card.

Classes cost $35 for materials and $15 for registration. Register at lakewoodrecreation.activityreg.com/ClientPage_t2.wcs; or call 216-529-4081.
