In March we received a letter from Russell Dzuba, asking us to get the word out about Leland Harbor in Leland, Michigan. Residents of the small town were struggling to raise $300,000 to dredge the harbor — a task neglected since 2014 due to tight Leland Township Harbor Commission funds and a lack of federal assistance. We are now happy to announce, however, that a local fundraising effort to purchase a $500,000 dredge boat — so officials could dredge the harbor annually — was met with great enthusiasm. The effort has raised more than $200,000, which will be paired with $300,000 from the Harbor Commission to purchase the new dredge boat. Congrats, Leland!
