Lorain Lighthouse Foundation Launches GoFundMe Page

By October 14, 2016No Comments

The Lorain Lighthouse, known as the “Jewel of the Port,” stands as a beacon to the city of Lorain, Ohio.

Next year marks the historic lighthouse’s 100th anniversary. To celebrate, the Lorain Lighthouse Foundation launched a GoFundMe campaign to help raise $24,000 for restoration projects, lighthouse operations and the 100th anniversary celebration.

The money raised will also help the Foundation with utility and insurance costs related to the operation of its restored fourth order Fresnel Lens. Other proposed projects from the raised funds include: Installing memorials at the lighthouse; re-fitting the work boat; relocating a flag pole; and offering live stream videos.

The lighthouse was decommissioned in 1965 and scheduled for demolition in 1989, but was saved when a private group agreed to take ownership of the lighthouse.
