Manitowoc Marina to Begin Dock Upgrade at End of Season

The City of Manitowoc’s dock at Manitowoc Marina will undergo a rebuild at the end of the 2024 sailing season as the aging infrastructure gets a much needed upgrade from a $439,746 grant from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to replace the dock as part of its Boating Infrastructure Grant program.

“This grant extends its impact well beyond the physical site,” stated Rich Larsen, president of the Manitowoc Marina, in a release, reports the Herald Time Reporter. “It enhances access for Manitowoc’s residents to Lake Michigan and increasingly attracts tourists who choose our marina as their gateway to vacation and explore our vibrant community.”

“The marina serves as a dynamic hub, connecting Manitowoc to the broader waterways and fostering economic and recreational growth right here in Manitowoc,” Larsen added.

Manitowoc was the only Midwestern city to receive funding from the highly sought after grant. Demolition on the existing dock will take place at the end of the 2024 sailing season, with construction on the new dock scheduled for winter and spring of 2025.

“Our marina is a valuable asset to our community for tourism and business alike,” Mayor Justin Nickels said in a press release, reports the Herald Time Reporter. “This grant will allow us to invest into the marina to make it successful for the next 40 years, especially as we are seeing more and more folks utilizing our marina over others nearby.”
