Marine Industry to Host Career and Education Tour for CTE Instructors

By October 27, 2025No Comments

The Michigan Boating Industries Association and Marine Trades Institute will host a marine-focused tour for Career and Technical Education Instructors, offering educators an inside look into careers within the marine trades through visits to Irish Boat Shop and Walstrom Marine in downtown Harbor Springs.

The event will offer CTE instructors a comprehensive view of the marine industry and help equip them with knowledge and resources to guide students towards careers in the marine industry.

“Together with our partners at the Michigan Boating Industries Association, we are actively creating new ways to connect with students and advocate for marine careers,”  says Meghan Mitchell, admissions and marketing manager at the Marine Trades Institute. “Connecting with CTE instructors is a critical step. They know which students already have the interest and drive for the trades, making them the ideal messengers to take this career information directly back to their schools.”

The event will be held on October 29 from 9am to noon, and will include tours at both Irish Boat Shop and Walstrom Marine, where instructors will participate in interactive sessions led by company leaders, marine technicians and representatives from both MBIA and the Marine Trades Institute. State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECHS) are offered as an incentive, allowing instructors to log professional development hours toward maintaining their licenses and certifications.

“At Irish Boat Shop, we’re committed to building the next generation of marine professionals,” adds Jessica Smith from Irish Boat Shop. “Opening our doors to educators allows us to share the incredible variety of careers within the boating industry and inspire the connections that help students turn their interests into lifelong passions.”
