In mid-September, the Great Lakes boating community lost David Giffin. He passed away at his home in Bay Harbor, Michigan at the age of 71.
Giffin was involved in the boating world in a number of influential ways. He owned and operated Grand Isle Marina in Grand Haven, Michigan for 24 years. He also served as commissioner of the Michigan State Waterways Commission for nine years, and as chairman for six. During his tenure, Giffin led the development of marinas at Mackinac Island, St. Ignace and Traverse City. He also served on the Bay Harbor Yacht Club Board of Directors and was chairman of the finance committee. Giffin is survived by his wife, Diane, four children and seven grandchildren.
