The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has announced new rules and regulations for the sportfishing season, and 2022 fishing licenses go on sale Tuesday, March 1 for the April 1, 2022 to March 31, 2023 season.

The walleye size limit on Lake St. Clair and the St. Clair River has increased from 13 to 15 inches, to match statewide standards. The Lake Superior round whitefish limit has increased and anglers are allowed to keep 10 additional fish as part of their daily limit. As part of the new regulations, underwater spearfishing opportunities for walleye, northern pike and lake trout have been added for portions of Lake Michigan and Lake Huron (requires a spearfishing license and additional requirements).

Special hook regulations have been put into effect on the Torch River and Rapid River from May 1 to July 1. From March 15 to May 15, there is a new daily possession limit of one rainbow trout on some inland waters.
