After reviewing the condition of the 64-year-old Enbridge Line 5, Michigan Governor Rick Snyder released a statement calling the situation “deeply concerning.” He called for a thorough review of the pipeline’s condition after it was revealed the line had gaps of missing enamel coating last year. It was revealed Enbridge knew of the gaps but did not report it for years.
The update provided to the governor found 42 of the 48 areas inspected on the pipeline have coating gaps. In his statement, Gov. Snyder strongly urged Enbridge to become more transparent concerning Line 5, saying: “While it does not indicate any imminent danger for the Great Lakes, this causes significant concern for the long term.”
