More Boats Registered in 2017 Than 2016

The number of documented and registered boats in the United States rose 0.8 percent from 2016 to 2017.

Florida led all states with the most, followed by Minnesota, Michigan, California and Wisconsin. States that recorded the largest growth from 2016 to 2017 were Oregon, Ohio and California. The total number of registered vessels reached 12 million, according to the NMMA’s U.S. Recreational Boating Statistical Abstract. The Great Lakes region accounted for 27.3 percent of boats and had the most boats per capita. For every 6.2 households in the Great Lakes, one boat was registered.
