In honor of the 47th anniversary of the loss of the S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald, the National Museum of the Great Lakes is hosting a special weekend-long event November 12 and 13, 2022. A guided tour of the Col. James M. Schoonmaker museum ship — which is typically closed this time of year — will use similarities in the ship to highlight and discuss the events of that fateful day on November 10, 1975, including theories about the sinking of the Fitzgerald and stories of the crew.
“Much of the Fitzgerald’s crew originated from the state of Ohio — some of which grew up and lived right here in Toledo,” says Ellen Kennedy, the museum’s Education and Visitor Experience director, reports Great Lakes Scuttlebutt. “These tours allow guests a hands-on opportunity to uncover and learn about what happened to the ship and crew that fateful night, and understand the everlasting impact of the tragedy.”
Tickets cost $20 for museum members, $25 for non-members, and the tours will comprise groups of no more than eight people and last for about 75 minutes. Purchase your tickets in advance to guarantee your spot.
