You may have heard of the lake surfers by the North Shore of Lake Superior. Director Ian Planchon has. He decided to film a documentary about the Great Lakes surfers that is set to premiere in November after current filming wraps, according to local Duluth news station FOX 21.
Freshwater will tell the story of the surfers who brave the cold lake (average water temperature is 40 degrees!).
“We felt there was a story that could be told there,” says Planchon, who saw the surfers after moving to Minnesota with his family. “I think the bottom line is we are just trying to share people’s stories and their connection to Lake Superior.”
