New Marina Opens on Trent-Severn Waterway

After 13 years of planning, a 1,000-slip marina has finally opened along Canada’s historic Trent-Severn Waterway on the western shore of Lake Simcoe. The full-service Friday Harbour Marina, which cost $25 million, is now Canada’s largest inland boating facility, with more than 42 acres of lagoons and 2.8 miles of waterfront.

“At Friday Harbor we want to accommodate all boaters,” says Ed Modzelewski, the founder and chairman of ATM, the company that designed the marina. “We want this place to be a destination unto itself.”
The marina is part of a larger resort with an 18-hole golf course, retail shops, performing arts center, and about 2,000 condominiums and hotel residences. The facility meets Clean Marine ecological standards, and can accommodate boats more than 100 feet in length.
