The Lakeside Daisy State Nature Preserve near Lake Erie in Ottawa County, Ohio is about to get a lot bigger. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources is purchasing additional land, increasing the protected area from 19 to 137 acres, thanks to a grant from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and donations, according to the ODNR.
The new area includes more than 700,000 daisy plants and is crucial for birds traveling along migration paths.
The plant was placed on the endangered list in 1980 before being listed as federally threatened in 1988.
