The Ohio Department of Natural Resources officially designated the Lake Erie Water Trail – Cuyahoga County at a ceremony at Windy Park on August 20, adding Ohio’s 16th state water trail to the maps.

The over 20-mile trail extends from Huntington Beach in the west of the county to Sims Park in the east, with 13 access points along the way and amenities including parking, paddle access, rest areas and concessions.

“We’re excited to officially open the Lake Erie Water Trail and help connect our region with our greatest asset – Lake Erie,” says Cleveland Metroparks CEO Brian M. Zimmerman. “I want to thank our community partners and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources for this designation that helps generate awareness of opportunities, education and the importance of safety when exploring our lake. We hope this trail will also encourage future water trail connections along Lake Erie with Lorain County on the west and Lake County on the east.”

The water trail helps promote public use of Lake Erie, while supporting tourism and further expanding conservation and stewardship efforts throughout the area. Developed by Cleveland Metroparks alongside other project partners, the latest water trail joins almost 1,000 miles of trails that provide opportunities for Ohioans and visitors to explore the state from the water.
