The public will have a chance to enjoy land along “the sag” north of Grand Haven thanks to a partnership between the Ottawa County Parks and the Land Conservancy of West Michigan (LCWM). The property is 345 acres along the Grand River that has been privately owned for years, but then the LCWM purchased half the property and then leased it to the Ottawa County Parks to manage.
“In order to secure this property for the public, the purchase needed to happen in full, but we only had grant funding for just over half of the property. The Land Conservancy really stepped up and for that, we are very grateful,” says John Scholtz, the Ottawa County Parks director.
Starting this October, the public will be able to enjoy the forested dunes, riverfront and green space after boundaries have been marked, safety has been improved, and trails and signs have been marked.
