The Village of Pentwater will hit a big milestone in a few weeks: On March 16 the village celebrates its 150th anniversary. Pentwater will host several events in celebration this year with a “Throughout the Years” theme.
Pentwater originated in 1853 as a settlement with a single sawmill. The lumber industry quickly boomed, turning Pentwater at one point in history into the largest shingle mill in the U.S. The Village was first incorporated on March 16, 1867 by the Michigan Legislature. In the 1990s, Pentwater transformed into the resort area it is still known as today. Visitors flock to Pentwater for its fishing, boating, beaches, parks, harbors and sand dunes.
New and old Pentwater visitors can attend a number of celebratory events throughout the year, such as the March 16 “Throughout the Years” Kick-Off Dinner; Founder’s Day on May 6; and a “Throughout the Years” End Celebration and Time Capsule Burial in September.
