The National Parks Service (NPS) has proposed a restoration of the north and south seawalls at Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial in Put-in-Bay, Ohio. Over time, the local marine environment has deteriorated and weakened the seawalls, leading to unsafe conditions at the park, which occupies a low elevation and close proximity to the Lake Erie shoreline.
The proposed project would restore and extend the seawall and improve stormwater management to help protect the cultural resource and enhance the visitor experience at the park and memorial. The NPS said it would design the project to make the smallest possible imprint on the historic landscape.
To help advance the project, and in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act, an environmental assessment for the proposed restoration efforts has been drawn up and is available for public viewing. The NPS will host a virtual open house on December 17 from 10-11 a.m. EST for the public to learn about the proposed project, provide input and ask questions. The open house will be held virtually on Microsoft Teams in an effort to protect health and safety.
