Raymarine and FLIR Partner on DockSense Assisted Docking System

By January 27, 2019No Comments

Docking your boat, especially in tight quarters, is easier than ever. The new Raymarine DockSense assisted docking system from FLIR Systems, Inc. uses object recognition, FLIR machine vision camera technology, GPS and motion sensors to help when docking. DockSense is the marine industry’s first intelligent object recognition and motion sensing assisted docking solution for recreational boating.

The system detects wind, tides, other vessels and objects, and uses corrective steering and throttle commands to escape mishaps, according to Raymarine. Prestige Yachts will be the first brand to demonstrate the technology.

“Raymarine DockSense assisted docking system embodies our focus on solutions by combining FLIP navigation, machine learning, and sensing technologies,” says Jim Cannon, president and CEO of FLIR. “Most importantly, we bring these innovations together into a simple solution that addresses a key customer challenge by taking the stress out of docking a boat and makes the boating experience safer and more enjoyable for everyone onboard.”
