Phase one of the project will include $1.5 million in landscape improvements, as well as upgrading the outdoor maritime artifact displays. A new Lost Mariners’ Memorial to highlight those lost at sea, as well as a kayak launch, an observation telescope, a riverfront event patio and an ungraded central lawn area will also be part of phase one. The museum will remain open during the construction. All four phases are expected to be completed by 2021.
From July to November 2019, Detroit’s Dossin Great Lakes Museum will begin phase one of a four-phase, $4.9 million outdoor enhancement project. Located riverside on Belle Isle, the museum is a destination for maritime enthusiasts, history buffs and nature lovers.
