Explore Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula on two wheels at Ride the Keweenaw May 26-28, 2023, spearheaded by Copper Harbor Trails Club and other partner organizations. The bike ride takes you from Greenland to Copper Harbor through historic mines, over scenic mountains and more, with the Greenland ride through the mine starting off the event Friday.
“The mountain bike ride through Adventure Mine is a unique opportunity you won’t find anywhere else,” says CHTC Executive Director Nathan Miller. “Without headlamps and handlebar lights, you’ll find the mine is pitch black. It’s rugged under the mountain, too. Old mine shafts can still be found here, as well as giant caverns carved from the solid rock over a century ago. At one notable point, you even have to get off your bike to crawl through a narrow passage!”
Saturday riders hit the Michigan Tech Trails for easy-to-intermediate single-track and grassy park rides. Afterward, enjoy a group ride through Churning Rapids in Hancock, and conclude the day with a group ride at Swedetown in Calumet. Sunday will feature the first Lake Superior Gravity Series Enduro race of the season.
“We have so many great options to check out, which is part of what makes Ride the Keweenaw so special. Copper Harbor is an amazing little spot with fantastic people, trails and natural resources,” adds Miller. “It’s our goal to share this special place with others. Building trails isn’t cheap, and we appreciate everyone’s support along the way to help make our network a destination for mountain bikers from across the nation.”
Head out and enjoy the scenic beauty of the Keweenaw Peninsula at this fun yearly event that features family friendly rides, intermediate and advanced riding, and more.
