Smartwatch Puts Marine Data Close at Hand

By May 10, 2017No Comments

Soon, you will be able to control your boat with just your wrist — or at least, the watch on your wrist. Garmin has unveiled the quatix 5 marine GPS smartwatch, a smartwatch designed specifically for boaters and life on the water.

The quatix 5 will be able to connect with compatible Garmin chartplotters and other marine electronic devices. This means the watch will have access to autopilot control, remote multifunction display waypoint marking and data streaming through NMEA 2000 boat data to provide speed, depth, temperatures and wind speed.

The quatix 5, however, is versatile, and can also be utilized for other sports, such as running, hiking, biking, swimming, rowing and paddleboarding. The smartwatch is water-rated to 100 meters, has a 24-hour battery life in GPS mode and two weeks in standard smartwatch mode.

The quatix 5 will go for $599.99, and the quatix 5 Sapphire for $849.99.
