The Southwest Michigan Regional Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Southwestern Michigan Tourist Council, has created the Summer Tourism Coalition “to create an honest and open communication stream for locals and tourists to get more information on the state of our local beaches.” The coalition was formed in response to the overwhelming media coverage of the erosion along Lake Michigan.
“Tourism is a major driver of the local economy and businesses cannot afford to have people second guess their trip to our area,” Arthur Havlicek, president and CEO of the Southwest Michigan Regional Chamber, told WKZO.com. “The truth is, Southwest Michigan still has plenty of beach for visitors to enjoy. With summer around the corner, we understood the best way to get that message out was to unify the efforts of our regional partners and craft a collaborative strategy to promote our beaches and the amazing amenities that surround them.”
Check the coalition’s new website, lovemibeaches.com, which will be updated to provide information on the state of the beaches, as well as information on how to protect property and investments along the coast.
