Three Men Paddleboard Across Lake Superior

By July 11, 2018No Comments

With a goal to raise $20,000 for the Great Lakes Shipwreck Historical Society, three men paddleboarded across the largest of the Great Lakes last week: Lake Superior.

Joe Lorenz, Kwin Morris and Jeff Guy — the founders of Stand Up for Great Lakes — navigated the rough waves, cold temperatures and darkness of the lake. The men successfully completed the Lake Superior paddle at 6 a.m. on July 11, “Finishing with a perfect sunrise, calm waters and a great crowd of family and friends at the shores of Whitefish Point,” Stand of For the Great Lakes’ Facebook says.

At 12 hours and 28 miles into their 61-plus mile paddle, the men stopped over the site of where the Edmund Fitzgerald sank in 1975 to lay a wreath.

This Great Lakes crossing isn’t the men’s first rodeo; in 2015, the trio crossed Lake Michigan to raise $10,000 for the Great Lake Alliance, and in 2017, the men crossed Lake Huron to raise $7,000 for Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary.
