Ohians and visitors can now more easily access and explore Lake Erie Shoreline thanks to two new online resources from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Office of Coastal Management. The updated Lake Erie Public Access Map Viewer and Lake Erie Public Access StoryMap allow users to discover publicly accessible parklands and protected lands along the Lake Erie shore and rivers feeding into the lake.
Users can easily toggle on/off many recreational dataset layers on the upgraded Map Viewer to discover beach and fishing access, boating access and paddling points, geologic and cultural points of interest and picnicking spots. Enhanced search functionality allows for searching by county, waterbody or name, and the map even highlights recreational corridors that connect Lake Erie public access sites, like scenic byways, biking facilities and water trails.
The StoryMap compliments the Access Map by allowing organizations to share maps and stories in an interactive and narrative format. Users enjoy dynamic location maps, text narratives and photos for access points, with a list of public access points along Lake Erie.
