Volvo Penta Powers Chicago Sightseeing Boat

By June 7, 2017No Comments

Anyone who has wandered through downtown Chicago has probably seen the city’s famous architectural boat tours winding along the Chicago River as guests take in the skyscrapers around them. One of the tour companies, Shoreline Sightseeing, has added a new boat powered by Volvo Penta engines.

The MV Skyview runs on a pair of D13 400-hp Volvo Penta engines. It’s Shoreline’s first vessel to use Volvo Penta engines. The captain of the Skyview said in a statement that the engines allow him to run more efficiently and smoothly, especially in the narrow river.

The Skyview can carry up to 300 passengers on its architectural sightseeing tours, which means low engine noise is crucial. The Skyview captain has said he noticed lower noise levels on deck, as well as no smoke or fumes.
