Wellcraft’s 262 Fisherman has been completely reimagined for 2018; building upon its impressive big-water fishing credentials, the updated 262 adds new family-friendly amenities that make it not only a great fishing platform, but also a perfect Great Lakes dayboat.

Full wraparound lounge seats with integral stereo speakers invite guests to kick back and soak up the sunshine. Removable backrests that mount into a pair of discreet bases at the aft end of the seats allow comfortable forward-facing seating for two. Add the oval-shaped, fiberglass bracket-mount table and this space converts into a cozy lunch spot with an unbeatable view.

Need more seating? The cooler seat located in front of the console now slides forward on tracks so it can be brought to the table — a smart design that greatly increases the boat’s overall functionality. Sliding the seat forward also provides access to the head compartment located in the center console (U.S. models only). The center console is longer, wider and taller on the 2018 model, allowing enough helm space for twin 10-inch multi-function displays. The double-wide helm leaning post offers individually adjustable bolster seats with flip-down armrests for comfort, while the aft side of the leaning post houses a 30-gallon baitwell, a bait prep station, a cutting board and more rod holders.

Overhead, a standard fiberglass T-top provides protection from the midday sun, while underfoot the self-draining cockpit is lined with fiberglass non-skid throughout.

In-gunnel storage in the aft cockpit provides a convenient space to store boat hooks, gaffs and other gear. Many buyers will want to spring for the optional portside dive door, which provides tremendous convenience for dockside boarding without having to step over the gunnel.

But even with its tremendous amenities, what sets this boat apart is its rough water performance. “I was able to run the 262 in Lake Michigan last fall in rough weather and the ride of this boat in those conditions was predictably solid and dry,” says Matt Mrozinski, from Lake Michigan Yacht Sales. “We sea trialed a prospect that same day and he ended up buying a 262 because he was so impressed with how well it handled.”
