Ever wanted to live in a 65-foot lighthouse along Lake Huron overlooking Tawas Bay? Now is your chance! The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is looking for a temporary lighthouse keeper for the spring and summer.
In exchange for light maintenance and guiding visitors, keepers need to pay $75 and work about 70 hours for two consecutive weeks. They also have to climb the 85-step tower regularly. The quarters are on the second floor and feature two bedrooms, a kitchen, a shower
“You can go up with your cup of coffee in the morning and watch the sunrise,” says Hillary Pine, the northern Lower Peninsula historian with the DNR and the Michigan History Center. “Or you can go up and watch the sunset. And that’s not something the general public gets the opportunity to do.”
