A major fundraising campaign to preserve one of Lake Michigan’s best‑known historic lighthouses is entering its final stretch. In December 2025, the nonprofit Lakeshore Keepers launched a $450,000 capital campaign to restore the Big Sable Point Lighthouse keeper’s dwelling at Ludington State Park, a 112‑foot lighthouse first built in 1867 that remains a local maritime icon.

Thanks to generous support from the Jeffris Family Foundation and other partners, donors have already secured more than $380,000, but about $68,600 remains to hit the campaign goal. Lakeshore Keepers initially planned to finish fundraising by June 2028 and begin work in 2029, but now they hope to complete the work in 2027, which is the lighthouse’s 160th anniversary year.

Organizers are making a final push for community contributions to complete the project and protect this classic Great Lakes beacon.
