In June, Cleveland Metroparks held a ribbon cutting event for the Patrick S. Parker Community Sailing Center at E. 55th Street Marina, creating the first public community sailing center of its kind along Ohio’s Lake Erie shoreline. The $18.5 million facility is designed to expand public access to the waterfront while providing sailing, education and recreation opportunities for residents and visitors.
The year-round center includes classrooms, community gathering spaces, boat rental and sailing facilities, and the Charlie Britton Sailing School, operated by The Cleveland Foundry. Programs include youth and adult sailing instruction, racing, STEM education and boating safety courses.
A new waterfront restaurant, The Galley, also offers indoor and outdoor dining with views of Lake Erie. Cleveland Metroparks hopes the center will help connect more people to the region’s greatest natural resource, Lake Erie.
