MJM Yachts announced the launch of “She’s the Captain” in partnership with Capt. Lauren Warren, U.S. Coast Guard 100-ton licensed captain and owner of Upper Chesapeake Boat School in Chesapeake City, Maryland. The program is designed for women new to boating or looking to improve their boating skills, and offers classes free of charge through MJM Yachts dealers.
“Most boating courses today are only offered on-shore or online. Among the on-water courses that are available, few are taught by licensed captains and fewer still by female licensed captains. Capt. Warren has more than 20 years of experience and a relaxed, reassuring teaching style that earns her rave reviews. We are excited to partner with her and our dealers to offer She’s the Captain classes to women boaters, knowing it will help them build their confidence and increase their enjoyment at the helm,” says MJM Yachts President and CEO Natascia Hatch.
The first classes will be held on the following dates at three different locations: May 16 at Legasea Marine in Yorktown, Virginia; May 30 at Jefferson Beach Yacht Sales in St. Clair Shores, Michigan; and May 31 at Jefferson Beach Yacht Sales in Holland, Michigan. A special session of the course also will be offered to customers who attend the MJM Experience Event scheduled for September 11-12 in New Bern, North Carolina.
“I’m delighted to work with MJM to create a women-only classroom and on-the-water experience. Our goal is to create a comfortable, supportive environment where women can build confidence while learning the fundamentals of boating — including safety, emergency protocols, docking, and line handling,” adds Warren.
