Looking for winter activities all about the Great Lakes? The National Museum of the Great Lakes has added an all-new book club that focuses on books about the Great Lakes region, with upcoming events on February 15 and March 15.
The book club features a virtual lunchtime event on Tuesdays with a different book featured each month. It’s a great time to join in discussion with fellow readers, gain some Great Lakes knowledge and add to your reading list. Space is limited to start, but there is a waitlist in the hopes of adding future events.
“We are always looking for new ways to engage people in learning more about the Great Lakes,” says Ellen Kennedy, the education and visitor experience director at the National Museum of the Great Lakes, reports WTVG. “For our first series, we have chosen three very different books featuring both fiction and nonfiction stories we believe will provide a very diverse perspective of the many roles the Great Lakes play in our daily lives — past, present and future.”
On February 15 they will be discussing “The Dawn of Detroit: A Chronicle of Slavery and Freedom in the City of the Straits” by Tiya Miles, and on March 15, “The Living Great Lakes: Searching for the Heart of the Inland Seas” by Jerry Dennis.
