A new Silicon Valley startup plans to reinvent the boat as we know it with designs that are technologically advanced, electrically powered and incredibly efficient. Cofounded by Sampriti Bhattacharyya, an MIT grad with vast experience in ocean technology, mechanical engineering and aerospace engineering, and Reo Baird, who holds degrees in aerospace, electrical and computer engineering and specializes in autonomous systems, Navier is building tech that drastically increases the efficiency of small powerboats by 90%, ensuring zero emissions along the way while improving ride performance.

The first product to come from the Navier brand will be the 27-foot foiling performance-craft announced at the 2021 Palm Beach Boat Show. Electric propulsion allows this craft to achieve a range exceeding 75 nautical miles, while autonomy features, highly advanced autopilot and an aerospace-grade foil control system and assistive docking technology make this the most technologically advanced recreational boat on the water.

The boat utilizes foils similar in design to those used by high-performance America’s Cup sailing vessels. The Navier team even includes experts involved in the development of America’s Cup foiling race boats, helping to create a vessel with exceptionally reduced drag and the most efficient operation possible.
