The National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) has launched the Waterways Access Initiative, a multi-year advocacy campaign focused on protecting and expanding access to America’s public waters. The initiative will promote policies supporting safe boat ramps, modern marinas, dredged waterways, healthy fisheries and recreation infrastructure.
The campaign comes as boating access faces growing challenges. According to NMMA’s most recent “Quarterly Marine Leadership Barometer,” 88% of marine industry leaders say infrastructure constraints are negatively affecting industry growth.
“Access to the water is the foundation of recreational boating and fishing in America,” says Frank Hugelmeyer, president and CEO of NMMA. “Our Waterways Access Initiative campaign advocates for policies that protect and expand access to public waters, strengthen our infrastructure, sustain working waterfronts, and bolster the $230 billion recreational boating and fishing industry.”
