Space Open for Chambers Island Lighthouse Tour

By September 18, 2015No Comments

One tour is already sold out, but another has space remaining for the Door County Maritime Museum’s first Fall Lighthouse Festival weekend.

An abbreviated version of the popular Lighthouse Festival in June, the Door County Maritime Museum is offering a couple of its most popular tours Columbus Day weekend. These fantastic nautical adventures will take place Columbus Day weekend, October 10-11, with discounts being offered for museum members.

The Chambers Island tour and the Sail Door County Schooner Cruise will be a part of this abbreviated and exciting offering. The Schooner Cruise has already sold out but the rare opportunity to visit Chambers Island is still available. The Chambers Island boat excursion and walking tour will be offered Sunday, Oct. 11, at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.

A journey to Chambers Island is a one of the Lighthouse Festival’s enduring offerings and will be presented in the same format as in June. As has been the case the past couple of years, transportation will not be provided from the Chambers Island dock to the lighthouse. Access to the historic lighthouse requires a 1-1/2 mile docent-led hike across the island. Lighthouse caretakers will meet the tours as they arrive at the house and provide a remarkable account of both the history of the island and its lighthouse. There you will be able to soak up the amazing view and climb to the lantern room platform.

Note: Good hiking shoes are recommended and participants should be in good enough shape to handle the hike. Time on the island will be approximately 2 hours. Tours will leave the Fish Creek dock adjacent to Clark Park to board the Quo Vadis. The cost of the tour is $65 for museum members and $69 for non-members.
