In April, the Toronto City Council announced a summer ban on motorized watercraft near some of its busiest waterfront areas. New Motorized Watercraft Exclusion Zone (MWEZ) will keep boats and PWCs at least 150 meters (about 500 feet) from popular spots like Humber Bay Shores, Hanlan’s Point and Woodbine Beach.
The enforcement efforts will run from late May to Labor Day weekend in September. The ban is designed to enhance swimmer safety and cut down on noise as lakefront traffic increases. City officials are also considering expanding the restrictions to additional parks in 2027, pending approval from Transport Canada.
