The Lake Erie Committee has announced that the total allowable catches for walleye in Lake Erie has increased for 2020, while the total acceptable weight for yellow perch in 2020 has decreased. The yellow perch limit is now 7.805 million pounds and the walleye number is now 10.237 million fish.

The number of walleye allowed increased 20% from 2019, thanks to a larger population this year. Of the mandated  jurisdictions, Ohio is alloted 5.232 million, Ontario 4.408 million and Michigan 0.597 million.

In terms of yellow perch, Ontario gets 3.737 million pounds, Ohio gets 3.139 million pounds, Michigan gets 0.192 million pounds, New York gets 0.203 million pounds and Pennsylvania gets 0.534 million pounds.

“Each of the past two fishing seasons (2018 and 2019) we set new records for our walleye harvest rate (the number of walleye harvested per hour of fishing effort), and I expect this year to be just as good,” Travis Hartman, Lake Erie program administrator for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ Division of Wildlife told cleveland.com.
